As a psychotherapist, I have been assisting individuals, couples, and families resolve emotional stresses and relationship problems for over twenty years.
Psychotherapy enables my clients to improve their coping skills, reduce their self-hurtful behaviors, and live emotionally healthier and richer lives. With some coaching and assistance, all of us can learn the skills of better communication and better management of stress.
Some of my clients prefer to participate in individual therapy, while others find couple counseling, or group therapy to be more helpful to solve their emotional or family problems.
Relationship and Communication Problems
Depression/Anxiety or Panic Disorder
Grief and Bereavement
Divorce or Separation
Remarriage Adjustment/Stepfamily Problems
Chronic Pain Management
Marriage/Relationship Assessment and Counseling
I have helped hundreds of couples to determine the major strengths and problem
areas in their relationships and to correct the sources of distress in the
relationship. This often involves learning new healthier ways to communicate
and removing "hot spots" from the past which interfere with the
present. Sometimes one partner is not willing to come for relationship therapy.
In that case I work with the partner who does realize the benefit of changing
destructive patterns in the relationship. If one person changes, the relationship
is changed.
Depression and Mood Disorder Therapy
Depression is the most common mood disorder. When you are depressed, you feel
sad and hopeless, often with poor self-esteem and little energy or interest
in activities. It is important to evaluate the cause and duration of the depression
and to find ways to relieve its distress. Sometimes improving coping strategies
and reducing stressors can greatly improve depression. My support and understanding
in this difficult experience can provide a great relief to you. If necessary,
we may decide to refer you to a medical doctor to evaluate the possible need
for medication.
Grief and Bereavement Therapy
Grief is a normal but painful process following a loss of a loved one. When
you lose a parent, spouse, or child, you often can benefit from supportive
and guiding counseling from someone who has both experienced it personally
and knows about grief professionally.
Divorce Recovery Therapy
I assist my clients to deal with the tremendously traumatic period following
a marital separation and divorce. I have conducted many classes and workshops
on divorce recovery and can lead you through this process to a better life
beyond it.
Stepfamily Adjustment Counseling
Remarriage brings a unique set of adjustment issues to the newly blended family.
A stepfamily joins two families into one and always involves stressful compromise
and major changes for the family members. I assist the family members in working
through their expectations and differences while beginning to unite and blend
the two family units.
Coping with Chronic Health Problems
Some of my clients have serious physical health issues that affect their emotional
health. Through my own experience, I understand how stressful it is to live
with chronic pain, doctor's appointments, and reduced activities. I have successfully
worked with clients who have multiple sclerosis, fibromyalgia, rheumatoid
arthritis, cancer, or HIV. Mind/body wellness can be improved and coping skills
can be developed to improve the quality of your life.
I am an Out-of-Network Provider for most major insurance PPO plans. This means the insurance company will usually pay a percentage of my charges for psychotherapy. My office will verify your coverage and check your benefits if you bring in your insurance card for the initial consultation.
